Q: As I get older, I’m beginning to notice pigmented spots on my face that seem
to get worse after being out in the sun. Is there anything I can do to prevent these?
A: Unfortunately, the sun is both our friend and our foe! Exposure to sunlight can help our mood and top up our Vitamin D stores, but it can also cause our skin cells to react thus increasing the amount of pigmentation. Wearing sunscreen on a daily basis is key! There are many different formulas out there. Riversol and Di Morelli (physician directed skin care lines available in our pharmacy) have formulas that are ideal for daily wear on the face. Also consider supplementing with pycnogenol to help with reducing the look of existing “sunspots” and helping to prevent
future ones.
